About Us

Santa Barbara County Local 2046 organized June 1, 1971 by the International Organization of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The Charter Executive Board was comprised of The President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Nine Directors. Michael T. Bennett was the Local’s first President and served from June 1, 1971 to January 5, 1981.

Today, Local 2046 is the officially recognized bargaining representative for safety personnel within the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. The union protects the rights of its approximately 235 members, advocating for working conditions, safety, salaries, and benefits. Represented job classifications include Fire Captain, Fire Engineer Inspector, Firefighter, Fire Equipment Operator Supervisor, Fire Equipment Operator, Fire Equipment Operator Assistant, Crew Superintendent and Crew Boss.
